Rates Increase Threatens UK Retail Sector

A warning from the British Retail Consortium has come recently as the threat of a rates hike could negatively affect the UK retails sector.

The British Retail Consortium has said that basing next year's business rates on today's retail prices will hit UK retailers with around £175 million in extra costs.

With the challenges since the recession the UK retail sector has been struggling through and with this threat for next year things do not look bright.

The business rates have already risen 1% between 2011 and 2012.

Celebrity Endorsed Virgin Supplier Enters Administration

A supplier to Virgin Active Gyms across the UK has recently entered administration.

Despite endorsements from Claudia Schiffer, Rachel Weisz, Anna Friel the company has gone into administration due to complications.

The company, called Power Plate International, made vibrating exercise plates that the celebrities felt helped save time and fit into their exercise routine very well so the recent administration will have come as a disappointment.

Optical Express to Close 40 Stores

A Subsidiary of Optical Express Group is to close 40 stores after administration.

The subsidiary of the spectacles retailer had 80 functional stores open and it is believed that 40 of the 80 stores will now close and be put under the main parent group.

According to representatives within the group there will be no job losses as a result of the administration so this is a positive outcome for the employees of  the subsidiary.
